France reach EURO 96 last four after shoot-out success against Netherlands
Dutch knocked-out in cruel manner
Sensational EURO 96 semi-finalists after penalty heartache
France will face either Spain or England in the semi-finals of EURO 96 after they overcame a spirited Netherlands team in a 0-0 draw in Newcastle before prevailing 5-4 on penalties.
Goalkeeper Bernard Lama saved Clarence Seedorf's spot kick and saw Patrick Kluivert blast over the bar before Laurent Blanc tucked away the winning penalty.
Wim Jonk had missed Holland's first penalty but they clawed their way back into the shoot-out thanks to misses by Bixente Lizarazu and Zinédine Zidane.
But after Marc Overmars had levelled, Blanc had the final say as Holland were left to rue their misfortune.
