Christian Eriksen scores on emotional Denmark return in 1-0 win over Finland
Eriksen's goal was his first since Euro 2020 collapsed in Copenhagen
Joachim Andersen got Denmark's only other goal, a header after just six minutes in Copenhagen
Christian Eriksen scored on his emotional return to the Denmark lineup as they overcame Finland 1-0 in their Euro 2020 match in Copenhagen. The midfielder, who suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark's opening game against Finland last summer, came off the bench to score a stunning free-kick in the 59th minute.
Joachim Andersen had put Denmark in front after just six minutes with a header, but Finland equalized through Joel Pohjanpalo in the 40th minute. However, Eriksen's goal proved to be the winner as Denmark moved onto four points in Group B, while Finland are still looking for their first.
The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at the Parken Stadium, and the atmosphere was electric. Eriksen received a standing ovation when he was introduced in the 54th minute, and he was clearly emotional as he took to the pitch. He was then given the captain's armband, and he led Denmark to victory.
Eriksen's goal was his first since Euro 2020 collapsed in Copenhagen. He was playing for Inter Milan at the time, and he had to be resuscitated on the pitch after collapsing.
