Dan Rather to Receive SXSW Innovation Award
Honoring Decades of Journalistic Excellence
March 13, 2024, Austin Convention Center
Dan Rather, the legendary news anchor who helmed CBS Evening News for over two decades, will be honored with the SXSW Innovation Award during a ceremony on Monday, March 13, at 6:00 pm in Ballroom D of the Austin Convention Center. This recognition marks Rather's first return to CBS News since his acrimonious departure in 2005.
The SXSW Innovation Award celebrates individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the fields of technology, entertainment, and social impact. Rather's selection is a testament to his exceptional career as a journalist and his unwavering commitment to truth-telling.
Over the course of his 60-year career, Rather has reported on some of the most pivotal events in history, including the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and the first Gulf War. He has received numerous awards for his journalism, including two Peabody Awards and three Emmy Awards. In 2012, he was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.
While Rather left CBS News under a cloud of controversy, he has continued to work as a journalist and author. He hosts the Dan Rather Reports podcast and has written several books, including his most recent memoir, "What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism."
